Sick of waking up tired, having no energy & needing a Nanna nap?

One of my gorgeous clients came to me recently after training and said she was going to cancel her early morning weight session as she gets too tired.

WTF!?

My first reaction was, “OMG, you are such a Princess!”

After a bit of a chat, I started to discover a few things about her lifestyle that easily added up to WHY she always felt like she was dragging her feet and running on empty. It was because her fuel gauge was in the red, her pee was the colour of a canary and her eyes looked like they belong to the late Jon English. She works long days, physically using her body from 9am-9pm for 4 days a week.

SOLUTION #1 – EAT MORE FOOD!

“I eat really well,” she said. “I have fish for dinner each night.” And?  What about the other five meals during the day? Breakfast: small bowl of cereal with yoghurt and fruit. Lunch: small tin of tuna and lettuce and a boiled egg. Snack: dry biscuits and dip. Dinner: fish and veggies, sometimes at 9pm. No wonder she was running on empty!

I explained that with her work, training and travel, she was trying to drive her body to Melbourne and back on just a quarter of a tank of fuel and wondering why she kept running out of energy!

SOLUTION #2 – DRINK MORE WATER!

“I’m too busy to drink.” Well, make time! If you don’t drink, your body will not function properly. One simple reason we need to drink is that our brain is made up of 75% water, and if you don’t drink enough water, your mind becomes fuzzy! “Whaaaaaat?”

SOLUTION #3 – GO THE F#CK to SLEEP!

She finally flops her head on the pillow at 11pm every night. She wakes up feeling lethargic and starts the day yawning. Back that up with not enough food or water, and she is a disaster waiting to happen.

SOLUTION #4 – MOVE YOUR ASS!

“I go for a walk, on the weekend!” We have muscles. They need to move in order to function properly and keep you standing tall. Move your body every day! You don’t have to run a marathon; just go outside for a 20 minute walk in your lunch break. You may be surprised, discover new things in your neighborhood, meet new people and inject some Vitamin D into your body.

ACTION STEPS:

Ok, so what should she do? Baby steps work best when making lifestyle changes. It will take time to change 50+ years of bad habits.

  • Break each task down into smaller action steps that are achievable.
  • Practice them every day.
  • When you start to feel better, it will be easier and won’t seem like a task.

EAT! Increase plant matter and have protein at every meal. Stop work for 20 minutes in the afternoon and have another meal, not just a bickie and dip.

DRINK! Fill up a 2 litre water bottle and make sure it is all gone before dinner.

SLEEP! Be in bed before 10pm every night, (gadget free).

MOVE! Plan 20 minutes each day to get out and enjoy the fresh air.

These 4 simple steps will help her (you) feel like she has more energy within a week.
